Neopet Tips and Tricks

First things first- getting a pet. To see all of the different kinds of neopets you can adopt, click here. My suggestion is going to the Neopian Pound because there are so many pets there that people created and then abandoned. You won't be able to rename them so you may be stuck with a stupid name, but you may find a wonderful neopet! (That's where I got six of my pets!)

Or you could adopt a grundo at the space station.

Raising your Neopets stats- you can do this by playing certain games, reading books to them to make them more intelligent or visit either Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy or the Mystery Island Training School . Either one will cost you something so be prepared to spend some Neopoints.

Gaining Abilities- you do this by finding a bottled faerie and releasing it. You can buy faeries in the Magic Shop, but best of luck to you. They don't stay in stock very long. You can also buy them in stores by checking the wiz but they can be mighty costly to the poor Neopian. Or you may be lucky enough to find one under the money tree.

Feeding your pet- If you are poor enough you may be able to get some help from the Soup Faerie at the Soup Kitchen. Once again, you might want to try to find some food at the money tree. But ofcourse one of the best ways to get free food and to save NP is to get your daily free omelette and daily free jelly. Or you could always check the wiz for food and don't forget about the shops.

Keeping your items from being stolen or destroyed- keep the ones you want to save in your safety deposit box! It's free and you can keep massive amounts of stuff in there without it getting stolen.

Running a shop- Simply one of the best ways to make Neopoints- if you do it right. Check the shops to figure out what the "hot" items are at the moment; check what's selling for cheap that you can sell back. For example, it used to be that omelettes were one of the best items to stock up on because you could find them in the shops for anywhere from 1 to 10 NP and then you could sell them back for 20 NP. If you're especially lucky you may be able to find some great deals, like a paint brush for 100 NP or an expensive omelette at the cost of the normal ones.

How to determine what cost you should sell your items- it's entirely up to you but here's what I do: before buying an item, unless I know how much its worth I check the wiz for the average price. I try to find the cheapest price on the wiz, see if it's worth doubling (or in some circumstances more) and decide if I'm going to buy it or not. Example: I look up Cheese Omelette and see that the lowest price is 150 NP. Next up is 200 NP. I'll probably look for a shop that has it for under 100 NP and then buy it. If I can't find a good price I move on to another item. Anyway, I try to find the average price on the wiz for the items I have to sell and keep it at that. I for one try to keep my prices low while still making money.

What should I stock? Again, entirely up to you but you can make some good money on omelettes- not entirely on the omelettes themselves but the other items you find for extremely low prices. Another high seller is snowballs. Junk and things like sand work ok. You may find some of those low priced goodies doing this. One thing you should keep in mind is fads and new items, they sell like hotcakes- the Jhudora Dark Faerie Quest items are one example. When they first came out you could buy a Poisonous Lollypop for 1-10 NP and sell it for 20 NP.

Which brings me on to another point- the Dark Faerie Quests are, in my opinion, not worth it. You spend loads of NP and either get an item that's only worth a few NP (right now) or else you get NOTHING.

How your shop looks- try to make it easy to load, easy to look at. overloading it with 50 dolls or other images is only going to drive prospective customers away. (unless it's interesting!). Music only adds to the confusion and annoyance. There's nothing like having your favorite tune on and have it interrupted by a Britney Spears "song". Music can cause other problems as well- freezing your internet window, slow loading, etc. In the end, it's not nice to listen to, it's a nuisance.

More things not to have in your shop: stolen images! bad bad bad! I've found many people with Starluck's Sweetwater Valley's images in their shops but with no link. Which brings me to another point- click on Shop Front once you've edited your html to make sure your images are showing up properly! It's really annoying to go to a shop and see the Angelfire banner set as the background. If your shop isn't showing up right, check out the Neopets HTML help guide. Anyway- one of the things I see a lot in shops are those annoying "you just found 1000000 NP!" etc. announcements. Those get very irritating. I for one don't like those fake paintbrushes (and the like) you can adopt and put in your shop.

Saving and making NP- one good way to save and make NP is by having a bank account. The money is there when you need some extra cash and if you don't take it out unless you really need it, it's a good way of saving money! Plus you earn interest daily (as long as you collect it). You may make a few thousand a year (if you stay with Neopets that long!) just by having a bank account and collecting your daily interest! So get yourself a bank account today.

World Events- you might want to check this page to get some more hints on money tree giveaways

Be sure to check the Calendar to check for special days (example: Eyrie Day is October 10th). New items and specials for the species of the day take place at the pet training areas.

Quest Help- Every now and then a faerie will ask you to find an item for her. This may be costly so you might want to check the quest help page to see if it's worth it. You can't use the wiz on these quests so you might want to make some neofriends or check the neoboards to see if someone will find the item for you.

Other Quest Help- this includes The Snow Faerie, the Mystery Island Kitchen, The Witch's Tower, The Esophagor, and The BRAIN Tree. The Snow Faerie quests are sometimes quite expensive and sometimes worth it. The Mystery Island Kitchen quests may be costly but it will help get your stats up as a reward. The Witch's Tower Quests usually aren't worth the money but occasionally she'll ask for something cheap and you'll get a good deal in return. In order to do the Brain Tree Quests you have to do the Esophagor quest twice to get the answers. All within a limited amount of time, ofcourse.

More Free things- The Wheel of Mediocrity- I ofcourse have not had much luck with this so I usually don't bother playing but that's just me.
The Snowager- If you can catch him sleeping you may be luck enough to get a prize. Or you may get attacked by it.
Christmas Advent Calendar- If it's December you'll want to visit this spot every day to get something free.
Tiki Tack Tombola- win sand, food, neopoints, codestones and more.
Coltzan's Shrine- sometimes nothing, sometimes food, sometimes a level increase.
The Neopet Fruit Machine- this is definitely worth trying daily.
The Wheel of Excitement- you may win a bunch of NP or an item. You could also be unfortunate enough to be blasted with lightning, have an item stolen, or one of your pets may get sick. Then again, one of your pets abilities may increase.
Healing Springs- get your pets healed for free or get free healing potions. This is limited, however.
Fishing! - let your pets go fishing and get free stuff
