A baby screams out into the night, breaking the chilling silence. It was a cold March night, even here beneath the ocean. The room was full of people- doctors, priests, and nurses gathered around the tired woman. Her small son stood at his mother's side, reaching out to touch his young sister.
Footsteps could be heard from the hall, coming closer to the small room. The doctors all gave each other a look, nodded and grabbed their nurses, rushing out of the cold room.
Only one priest remained, placing his hands on Deignian's shoulders, urging him to leave. He looked at his mother with confusion. She nodded at the boy, closing her tired eyes.
The two left the room as he was opening the door. The dark man was dressed all in black and made no noise as he walked towards the bed. Karalina placed her lips upon her newborn's forehead as she felt the stranger touch her lightly on the hand.
"My queen, I fear it is time," his words were cold and empty.
The woman nodded, pressing her child's body to her warm chest. A single black tear fell from her aqua eyes as she spoke.
"Please watch over her for me... the Elders must never know of this."
"I know, m'lady."
Her heart sank as the man reached out for the child.
"I shall guard her with my life."
And with that, he was gone.

"Breathe."
"I can't."
"You can."
"But I'm scared!"
"You'll be fine. Trust me."
"Trust you."
"Trust me. You'll make it."
"If you think so."
"I do."
"Alright..."
The small, trembling blonde girl closed her eyes as she let out a small breath and let in fresh air. She opened her eyes, staring at her was the sea creature she met at the shore.
"I can breathe!"
"Well, duh."
She looked around her and saw that she was just barely beneath the surface. She crouched down to look at a creature very similiar to the sandollars and starfish on her own homeworld.
"Don't touch that!"
The mercreature grabbed the girl to get her away from the sandfish.
"But why?"
"It'll tear into you before you even realize you can smell it. Right before it attacks, the sandfish lets out this ungodly smell. Then it attacks."
"Oh, well, that doesn't sound so bad."
"What I didn't tell you was that because we're under water the sandfish can get to you before the smell does."
"That fast?"
"That fast."
"Nice warning."
"Yes, we're not sure about that part. We think it's rather a signal to it's mate that 'food' is near. The boys over at the lab are still conducting research on it."
"The lab?"
"Over there," the mercreature, who was more dragon than maid, pointed to the right. "Past the graveyard. Don't ask, it's best not to."
"Ask what?"
"Nevermind, let's go, shall we?"
"Where are we going?"
"Why, to meet the queen, ofcourse."
The small girl's eyes lit up with that. "Queen? But... but... look at me!"
"Is something wrong?"
"Look at me! I'm in nothing but rags, I'm not even wearing shoes! I can't meet a queen looking like this!"

I am a world-shifter. Ironically, it was a good idea gone bad that led me to discover exactly what this was. I was fresh out of college and looking to find a name for myself. It was then that I came up with the story line for a brilliant new fantasy series. I wrote down everything in a frantic daze; the characters, the plot, how Devin the werewolf fell in love with a vampire named Trina. I drew roughed out sketches of what the characters would look like, what their world would look like and even the plants and animals. I had everything planned, right down to the finest detail.
And then it happened. A friend that I hadn't seen in years dropped by, simply to drop off a gift. A book she thought I might enjoy. I began to panic as I leafed through the massive book; for before me were all the ideas I had spent so many days working on, all printed in a single book.
I shortly became obsessed with the author and tried to find out everything I could about her. How could she possibly have known everthing I had written? Everything I had sketched? It was after meeting and speaking with my friend that I decided to take the author to court.
This was when I met him. Not jus any him, but HIM. Darren had read my strory on some local website. He was sure that he had found someone else very much like himself, and he was very, very right.
Unfortunately I lost my case in court. I did, however, find myself. I am a world-shifter. It's hard to explain to others, but its kind of as though the world around a shifter reads their ideas and thoughts and thus shifts itself to fit around that person. We are what we create.
